Church Council
Big Spring United values the voices of congregation members in leadership. Our Church Council is responsible for the mission, vision, health, and finances of the congregation. Each member also serves on several Committees described below that are responsible for particular areas of ministry.

Big Spring Inter-Church Council
Committee members attend bi-monthly meetings of the BSICC to discuss and support programs including Meals on Wheels, Neighbors in Christ, Paw Packs, SPY, and more. Members report back to the Church Council regarding decisions and involvement as needed.

fellowship
Part of our mission is to foster a community focused on deep, relational connection, mutual support, and shared faith in Jesus. The members of this Committee plan activities that provide time for fellowship and strengthen relationships among our members and community. Several opportunities include game nights, community dinners and dances, and more.

finance
This Committee oversees the congregation's financial affairs, prepares reports for Council Meetings, manages the budget, and more- all in consultation with the Treasurer, Church Council, and the Congregation. It ensures prompt payment of all obligations, including benevolences to the synod and community. The Committee also manages investments and tax preparation with our CPA.

food bank
The Big Spring Area Food Bank operates out of our building once per month. Committee members coordinate donations from the congregation to the food bank, support logistical details, and serve as a liaison for food bank needs.

paw packs
Paw Packs is our local backpack program service for food-insecure children in Big Spring's district. The backpacks are packed at Newville Church of God and delivered to the schools to go home with the kids over the weekend. Committee members serve as liaisons to the program regarding needs, volunteers, and other logistics.

property
Members of the Property Committee maintain our building and grounds. From the kitchen to the bathrooms to the lawn and everything in between, this committee literally, keeps the lights on. Volunteers also take care of maintenance for the Memorial Garden and parking lot, including snow removal.

publicity
Called to share the Gospel with our community and beyond, this Committee manages the website, social media, newspaper and radio ads, and the newsletter for the church to improve our information and reach.

worship and music
This committee meets regularly to pick hymns and music that ensure a faithful and inspiring worship service. They coordinate shared services with other congregations around holidays, ensure proper licensing is obtained, and so much more.

Youth and family engagement
This Committee supports Sunday School for our littlest members, Youth Group for our 5th-12th graders, and community events for the whole family. Members also ensure a safe and nurturing environment for our children by maintaining our Child Protection Policy, which ensures that only properly qualified and screened adults are trusted with the care of our young ones.
